High School Diploma & Equivalency Prep

Spring is coming…and so is graduation! I’ve had more students in the classroom lately - everyone is working to get their credits done so they can walk this June. Many students in our distance learning program are also doing the same. It’s a great feeling to complete one’s high school education as an adult…definitely something to check off the bucket list!

I am excited to announce that our HiSET program is bringing back Aztec as our primary prep software. Our program used it in the past, and since then Aztec has worked out a lot of the bugs in their software and I am finding that our students are really enjoying the benefits the program offers. There are pretests, posttests, lessons, drills, and practice tests. My hope is that this program will allow our students to achieve successful HiSET scores at a more rapid pace.

Snowline Adult School has added a Technology Essentials class for our high-level ESL students. We are working with our phones (or tablets) and learning how to improve our basic security and communication on these devices. We will also be working with computers to review several of the programs Google offers (Chrome vs Gmail accounts, Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides). We hope to keep this class in our line-up so future students can partake as well.

Please spread the word about Snowline Adult School. We endeavor to reach as many members of our community as we can.

English as Second Language

Our ESL program continues to grow, with the addition of the night class in Victorville, at Vista Verde Elementary School, our classroom aide, Marci, and new lessons in technology.

The Victorville classes are Tuesday and Thursday nights and are available to all levels. If you are interested in joining this class, please let us know.

We also have a classroom aide, Marci Garcia. She will be working with us in the classroom during the day classes at Phelan and the night classes at Vista Verde Elementary School.
She is fluent in Spanish, which is a big help with many students in the beginning level.  We understand learning a new language is difficult and can be intimidating.  Having Marci in the classroom to help with Spanish translations can help students feel more comfortable and confident.

The ESL 3 class will now include lessons about technology, including basic computer/tablet use, using the free Google programs, working with your smart phone, and security topics. These lessons are taught by Ms. Michelle Schneider and will be 10:30am - 11:30 every Wednesday.
