High School Diploma and Equivalency Prep
It's great to be back in the classroom. After a year of distance learning, we now also have options for students who would rather study at home and not commute to the classroom. In the HiSET and ABE classes, in-person learning is generally best, but after last year I have dozens of recorded math lessons online, which can offer distance learning students more chances to reinforce their learning.
I want to make sure all my students know that we offer Career Technical Education (CTE) courses for credit in the Adult School. If you are a Diploma student, taking these courses is a great way to further your credits and to get a break from Edgenuity at the same time. If you are an ABE or HiSET student, these classes are a great way to learn typing and sharpen your computer skills. Dr. Morris offers Typing I, Typing II, Computer Literacy, and Microsoft Word. You can enroll in these classes by contacting our office staff.
Our ESL program has adapted to meet the needs of our students. To keep learning going during the pandemic we switched over to remote/online classes, and now our students are loving the flexibility of joining the class from home or the option to meet in person for both the day and night classes. The classroom is setup to allow you to interact with each other even while joining from home. The English lessons are available anytime, so you can keep learning anywhere you have a device with an internet connection. We also have a new staff member, Marci Garcia, who you will see in the morning classes twice a week, she has been a great addition to the program!

CTE Programs - Computer Literacy/Typing, Microsoft, and Accounting
Career Technical Education isn't the same typing class you took in high school. It is a whole new ballgame with the advancements in technology. Most jobs and careers out there today require some proficiency with a computer, more than simply typing. It is being able to work with spreadsheets, presentations (and not the paper boards), and extensive word processing. In our classes we are able to give you that foot in the door you need to get the interview - Word and Excel certifications, Typing Tests with certificates, Computer Literacy with certification, and if you are really looking for some extra skills -we offer Accounting I and II.
Are you looking for college credits to qualify you for a promotion or more? All of our career technical education courses are articulated with Victor Valley Community College for credits - at no cost to you. With our open enrollment option for most of the courses - you can complete them on your time table. Can't come to class in-person? - The courses are recorded live - you can attend remotely or watch the recording when you have time.
Last year, during the pandemic, we had students achieve Microsoft Word certification, and Typing certificates and over 35 college credits awarded. Contact us for more details!
